About
The Beginning
Kappa Upsilon Chi is a national fraternity for Christian men composed of Christian collegians seeking to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ . Four men of differing denominational backgrounds created the Alpha chapter in the winter of 1993 at Texas Tech University in response to the demand for a Christian brotherhood on campus. The founders were Tyler Beard , David Boncler , Ken Rowland , and Matt Welborn. While they had looked at other established Christian fraternities, they felt as though a new order with more concentration on tradition and structure would be best suited for the Texas Tech campus. Two of the men were initiates of Phi Gamma Delta. They brought in their first pledge class of 13 that spring of 1993.
The Delta Chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi was brought to the campus of Georgia College and State University during the Spring of 2001 by Jason Bouchard, Robert Grant Jr., Ben Harrison, Kelly Pugh, Marc Thompson and Stephen Tyner. Most of these men were active in campus ministries at the time, but saw the need for a brotherhood of Christian men, united in a specific purpose: To train men to become servant leaders who will be able to serve at a better capacity in their professional, family, and spiritual lives. What is Our Purpose
Kappa Upsilon Chi exists for several reasons. Our greatest desire is to glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We also seek to uphold and maintain biblical Christian standards, to be an influence in the community through servant lifestyles, to pursue a positive attitude and spirit, and to help other strengthen their academic achievement, enabling them to be what the Lord has called them to be. We do this by submitting to the Lord, Our God, and allowing him to direct our lives and as Psalm 139:23-24 states, "Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
In addition to this, we see ourselves in a multi-faceted role as both a Fraternity and a Ministry. By that, we seek to create strong brotherhood between the brothers and providing solid Christian accountability, which we find meaning from in Proverbs 27:17, "As Iron Sharpens Iron, so one man sharpens another." Along with this, we also seek to outreach to the other fraternities on campus, and serve campus-oriented ministries.
Where is Delta Now?
Delta Chapter experienced large growth quickly after the establishment of the chapter on campus. Many of the brothers were active and served in leadership capacities in local campus ministries. Consequently, the men of Delta Chapter also helped a group of Christian sisters form a Christian Sorority on campus, Sigma Alpha Omega.More recently, several factors (largely a majority of brothers graduating over a couple of semesters) lead Delta Chapter to experience a steep decline in membership. In the Fall of 2007, Delta Chapter had 5 active brothers in August. Along with a deep spiritual revival in the Fraternity, God brought in 9 men in the Lambda Pledge Class that semester, 7 of which were initiated as brothers. The following spring, God brought in 2 men in the Mu Pledge Class who also became brothers.
It was also during the Spring that the brothers of Delta Chapter, seeing a dire need for a vision for the chapter, created what is known as the "Delta Doctrine." The "Delta" Doctrine is a 5 year, multi-faceted, plan for the chapter, which is intended to promote goaled progression and officer/committee uniformity. Among the doctrine, are outlined goals to increase cooperation and extended relationships with other ministries and fraternities on campus, as well as strengthening our relationship with our sister Sorority, Sigma Alpha Omega, and finding spiritual guidance for our chapter.
Currently, the brothers of Kappa Upsilon Chi are enjoying their summer. As well, they are fully preparing for the Fall Semester 2008 Rush week by advertising at Incoming Student Orientations.
