Q) What exactly is a Christian fraternity? Aren't all fraternities Christian?
A) Traditionally, a majority of fraternities were founded on Christian principles, and most still claim to be Christian organizations. However, a lot of their actions and lifestyles do not reflect that of a Godly man. Kappa Upsilon Chi specifies itself as a "Christian Fraternity" because it was founded by Christian men and still upholds these values. Our purpose statement begins, "Kappa Upsilon Chi exists for several reasons. Our greatest desire is to glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...". One of our greatest strengths in accountability which directly reflects our motto that comes from Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."
Q) Do I have to be a freshman to rush?
A) No, not at all. We have had freshman to transfer students to "super seniors" rush.
Q) What would rushing KYX cost me?
A) Dues are minimal when compared to other fraternities. You would pay just $200 your pledge semester (you have the option of making this in two payments), and then $150 as an active brother each consecutive semester. The extra $50 during your pledgeship covers extra overhead that is not necessary to active brothers. Money should never determine whether you rush and/or pledge. If this is your case and you desire to be a part of this Christian brotherhood, alumni scholarships, fraternity wide fundraising, etc. make this possible. Do NOT let money be your excuse.
Q) How time consuming is Rushing and Pledgeship?
A) Rush is a week long time period of events. A typical pledgeship is around 10 weeks. This may change, as this depends on factors such as whether or not the brotherhood feels the pledges are ready, everything in the pledgeship is completed, etc. Pledging any Greek organization is a time commitment. There are several requirements that a pledge must meet, but you will have a life and your pledgeship will not interfere with your personal religious life, family, academics, etc. You will grow closest to your pledge brothers than the other brothers in the group as you spend most of your first experiences together. Obviously, KYX in no way hazes, as this would directly contradict Christian values and is illegal. KYX is also a dry fraternity.
Q) Do you have a house?
A) Currently, there is a house which is occupied by a majority of brothers. As a result, this is used as a key centralization point for many of the internal activities of the Fraternity. However, we do not own a house.
Q) How long has KYX been around?
A) KYX was first started in the spring of 1993 at Texas Tech University. Delta Chapter has been chartered on Georgia College & State University's campus since the spring of 2001. Our first Alpha Class rush was in the Fall of 2001, Beta Class in the Spring of 2002, etc. This Fall 2008 pledge class will become Nu Class after their induction.
Q) How many chapters are there?
A) There are currently 10 chapters of KYX in five states. We are the fastest growing Christian Fraternity in the nation, and at present there are around 10 campuses interested in colonizing a chapter.
