History

The Beginning...

In the Spring of 1993, at Texas Tech University, four men of differing spiritual backgrounds and denominations joined together to focus a God given vision of a place for men to join in brotherhood to grow under Christ's leadership. Those men were Tyler Beard, David Boncler, Ken Rowland, and Matt Welbourn.

At the end of the Spring semester of 1993, the first pledge class, the Alpha class of the Alpha Chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi, were inducted as active brothers. Since then, hundreds of men who have studied on the campus of Texas Tech University have been through pledgeship and participated as active members. Three other chapters have been formed since then.

In the Fall Semester of 1995, Kappa Upsilon Chi was brought to the campus of Wayland Baptist University at Plainview, Texas under the guidance of the Lord. The members of the Texas Tech Alpha chapter initiated the Alpha Class of the Beta chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi. The Beta chapter Charter Members included: Chad Cain, Larry McGregor, Sam Griffin, Aaron Groff, Donnie Wiseman, Michael Cox, Scott McCraw, Jon Morris, Ryan McDaniel, John Espinosa, Joe Stepp and Mark Speed.

One night in the fall semester of 1999, at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, nineteen men met together as a group for the first time under the guidence of the Lord. Their hope was to become a chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi. That night, four alumni from Alpha chapter initiatied these men into what was to become the Gamma chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi, which was recognised by Southwestern University as an organization in December of 1999. The Charter Members of the Gamma chapter are: Paul Belk, Ryan Elliott, Paul Gravley, Jordan Guidry, Baker King, Justin Landry, Daniel Lowery, David Panto, Bryan Pickett, Javier Rodriguez, Aaron Rohre, Chris Roysden, Michael Rutledge, Josh Stewart, Jeff Taylor, Aaron Templer, Kyle Waggoner, Brent Webster and Ty Wilson.

In the fall semester of 2001, the Delta chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi was initiated on the campus of Georgia College and State University under the Lord's guidance.

Kappa Upsilon Chi expanded to the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the Fall of 2003. Dr. Chris Schwab, an alumnus of the Alpha Chapter became the first member to return and serve as Faculty Advisor. He oversaw the Charter Members as they met together, planned, prayed, and finally formed the fifth chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi. These three charter members traveled to Lubbock, Texas on a snowy day in January of 2004 and were initiated by Matt Carter of the Board of Directors, Dr. Schwab, and the actives and officers of the Alpha Chapter.

Chapters have now spread to campuses across the nation including Lamar University, University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Central Florida, Clemson University, University of Tennessee-Knoville, University of Kentucky, University of South Carolina, and SPSU.

What it is now...

These three men under the guidance and direction of their Lord and Savior, stepped into faith and started a brotherhood that would impact many lives. As a trio they held bible studies, worship, and grew in their faith. As they met on a weekly basis during the school year they had a vision for KYX to be a place for struggling guys from all backgrounds to come together and be real with each other, pray for each other, and sharpen each other on a daily basis. After finishing their first semester as a brotherhood, four new godly men joined the following semester and the brotherhood strengthened even more. Through the years KYX has seen many changes and have endured many hardships, yet the heart's of these men make it seem like its dust on their shoulder's!
