Fall 2008 Rush

In the fall, we have some events for those interested to check out.  We also have some public events where anyone can come and see what Kappa Upsilon Chi is about.  Keep checking this site for updates as we will continue to update it as the school year approaches.  There is a notable section here which lists the pledge requirements.  Click here to go there.
If you have any questions about FALL RUSH 2008, contact our Internal Vice President, Shane Sears.  He is in charge of rush and the activities that surround it.
If you have any questions about the PUBLIC KYX EVENTS, contact our External Vice President, Brandon Brown.  He is in charge of social events and the activities that surround them.

Fall Rush 2008 Events

Sports on Johnson
  • What: A time to just go and hangout and play some ultimate Frisbee, soccer, football, and other miscellaneous sports.
  • When: Wednesday, September 3, 2008 @ 7:00 PM
  • Where: UNM Upper Johnson Field
  • Why: This is an informal rush event for those interested in joining Kappa Upsilon Chi.
The Rock-The-Party
  • What: A time to come and hang out after the big UNM vs. Texas A&M game.  There will Free Food, Rock Band and More on Projectors, Poker Tables, and a Special Appearance by KISS.  Bring a friend if you want.  ALL students are welcome.
  • When: Saturday, September 6, 2008 @ 7:00 PM
  • Where: Chris Torres' House: 9817 Camino Del Sol NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111
  • Why: This is an informal rush event for those interested in joining Kappa Upsilon Chi.
Formal Rush
  • What: Formal Rush  is a time where those who are interested in joining Kappa Upsilon Chi get a lot more in depth information on this night about Kappa Upsilon Chi and what it stands for.At this event, those interested can sign up for interview times.
  • When: Sunday, September 7, 2008 @ 8:00 PM
  • Where: Flying Star Downtown (723 Silver Ave. SW Albuquerque, NM 87103) in the Conference Room Upstairs
  • Why: The Formal Rush Event is where those interested in joining KYX gain a good knowledge of Kappa Upsilon Chi, and it is also a time where they can sign up for interviews.
Induction of the Lambda Class
  • What: This is the night that those who are interested in Kappa Upsilon Chi begin their pledgeship process.  This night also concludes Rush for the fall semester of 2008.
  • When: Monday, September 15, 2008 @ 6:00 PM
  • Where: TBD at an undisclosed location
  • Why: This is the first time that the Lambda pledge class will meet as one and begin their pledgeship as one pledge class.
Interviews
  • What: This is the time where those interested are interviewed by the brothers of KYX to see what their greatest desires are and what their purpose is for wnating to join Kappa Chi.
  • When: Monday, September 8, 2008 - Friday, September 12, 2008 @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM (In half hour intervals)
  • Where: UNM Student Union Building (SUB) Third Floor in the Cherry/Silver Room
  • Why: This is a process each member previously has gone through and all members will go through in order to join KYX
Fall Retreat
  • What: The mandatory semester retreat where all active members and pledge members come together for one weekend to bond in worship and brotherhood.
  • When: October 3, 2008 – October 5, 2008
  • Where: TBD
  • Why: The purpose of this retreat is to bring unity within the brotherhood as the new members begin their journey with the fellow brothers.  Their focus for this weekend to to glorify God.
Chapter Meetings
  • What: The weekly meetings active members and pledge members.  Pledges must attend 100% of the meetings.
  • When: Mondays @ 7:00 PM
  • Where: Fiesta Room in SUB on the 3rd Floor
  • Why: The purpose of the meetings are to discuss business affairs that are going on within the fraternity followed by a time of fellowship with the brothers.

Public KYX Events*

Friday Night Live
  • What: Come out for FREE FOOD, video games on the big screen, henna tattoos, or to meet some of the UNM Athletic Teams. This is the perfect way to try something new and have a blast at UNM!
  • When: Friday, August 22, 2008 @ 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
  • Where: UNM SUB
  • Why: The men of KYX will be having an information table in the SUB on this night.  We will be there to hang out and tell you all about KYX.
Student Organization Day
  • What: During Welcome Back Days at UNM, they will be having information tables out at the duck pond with different themed days.
  • When: Thursday, August 28, 2008 @ 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Where: UNM Duck Pond
  • Why: The men of KYX will be having an information table at the UNM Duck Pond on this day.  We will be there to hang out and tell you all about KYX.
Football Game Tailgate
  • What: The UNM Football Game: UNM vs. TCU
  • When: Saturday, August 30, 2008 @ 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
  • Where: University Stadium Parking Lot
  • Why: We like to show some school spirit by supporting Lobo Athletics.  Come join us on this day while we relax and watch the Lobos play some football.
Football Game Tailgate

Below is a list of requirements that pledges are required to fulfill. If you cannot fulfill all of the requirements please call contact Shane Sears ASAP to make arrangements.
Kappa Upsilon Chi prerequisites are:
  • Must have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
  • All Pledges and Active members should have a desire to grow closer to Christ.
Pledge Requirements
  • Attend 100% of Pledge Meetings scheduled for the semester.
  • Attend 100% of the Chapter Meetings scheduled for the semester. (Chapter Meetings begin at 7:00 PM sharp on every Monday evening.)
  • Attend 100% of the Rush Activities scheduled for the semester
  • Attend a weekly accountability group.
  • Attend the Semester Retreat. (October 3, 2008 – October 5, 2008)
  • Participate in the Semester Service Project.
  • Attend semester Prayer Night and one additional chapter prayer event.
  • Participate in a local church.
  • Be involved in a Bible study.
  • Be currently enrolled at the University of New Mexico.
  • Maintain a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (based on a 4.0 scale).
  • Attend a minimum of 2 hours of study hall per week.
  • Pay Semester Dues. ($200)
Kappa Upsilon Chi Character Standards
  • Be an example for the local community and beyond.
  • Submit to the Christian Principles found within the Bible.

*-Public KYX Events ARE NOT part of the Fall Rush 2008 Events.  They are separate events that we will do during that time period.  They are additional events where others can get to know what KYX is about as well as those interested in joining.
