History
The History of Kappa Upsilon Chi
In the Spring of 1993, at Texas Tech University, four men of differing spiritual backgrounds and denominations joined together to focus a God given vision of a place for men to join in brotherhood to grow under Christ's leadership. Those men were Tyler Beard, David Boncler, Ken Rowland, and Matt Welbourn.
At the end of the Spring semester of 1993, the first pledge class, the Alpha class of the Alpha Chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi, were inducted as active brothers. Since then, hundreds of men who have studied on the campus of Texas Tech University have been through pledgeship and participated as active members. Three other chapters have been formed since then.
In the Fall Semester of 1995, Kappa Upsilon Chi was brought to the campus of Wayland Baptist University at Plainview, Texas under the guidance of the Lord. The members of the Texas Tech Alpha chapter initiated the Alpha Class of the Beta chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi. The Beta chapter Charter Members included: Chad Cain, Larry McGregor, Sam Griffin, Aaron Groff, Donnie Wiseman, Michael Cox, Scott McCraw, Jon Morris, Ryan McDaniel, John Espinosa, Joe Stepp and Mark Speed.
One night in the fall semester of 1999, at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, nineteen men met together as a group for the first time under the guidence of the Lord. Their hope was to become a chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi. That night, four alumni from Alpha chapter initiatied these men into what was to become the Gamma chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi, which was recognised by Southwestern University as an organization in December of 1999. The Charter Members of the Gamma chapter are: Paul Belk, Ryan Elliott, Paul Gravley, Jordan Guidry, Baker King, Justin Landry, Daniel Lowery, David Panto, Bryan Pickett, Javier Rodriguez, Aaron Rohre, Chris Roysden, Michael Rutledge, Josh Stewart, Jeff Taylor, Aaron Templer, Kyle Waggoner, Brent Webster and Ty Wilson.

Kappa Upsilon Chi expanded to the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the Fall of 2003. Dr. Chris Schwab, an alumnus of the Alpha Chapter became the first member to return and serve as Faculty Advisor. He oversaw the Charter Members as they met together, planned, prayed, and finally formed the fifth chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi. These three charter members traveled to Lubbock, Texas on a snowy day in January of 2004 and were initiated by Matt Carter of the Board of Directors, Dr. Schwab, and the actives and officers of the Alpha Chapter.
In the Fall of 2003, Nathan Rice, an Alpha Chapter active, transferred to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Having known the nature and ministry of the brotherhood of Kappa Upsilon Chi, Nathan enlisted the help of five other OU students to bring Kappa Upsilon Chi to their campus. In January, 2004 these men were inducted into pledgeship and began the journey towards establishing the Zeta Chapter. These men were fully initiated in August of 2004 and are the charter members of the Zeta Chapter.
In the Spring of 2004, KYX expanded to the Lamar University campus in Beaumont, Texas. In January, the charter members of the Eta chapter were inducted and began their journey towards active membership. They were initiated as actives in August of 2004 along with Zeta chapter at the Second Annual KYX Leadership Summit.
In the Fall of 2004, KYX made its way onto the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Sean Cunningham an Alpha Chapter, Theta Class Alumni aided in the creation of the Theta Chapter, Alpha Class. The six charter members of Theta Chapter began their journey on August 7, 2004 when they were inducted along with the Iota Chapter of the University of Texas at Dallas at the National Leadership Summit of KYX in Weatherford, TX. The six gentlemen went through the pledge process together and were initiated by members of the Delta Chapter and Alpha Chapter Alumni on December 4, 2004.
During the Spring semester Robert Gifford, stumbled upon the website of Kappa Upsilon Chi while working on some things for another Christian organization on campus. He was really impressed by what he saw there, but didn't think much about it at the time. However later that semester Robert as well as another man Matt Soltenberg, tossed around the idea of a Christian fraternity at the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), partly as a joke. However they took the time to contact Kappa Upsilon Chi about information regarding establishing a chapter. After some prayer, the met with some people involving it, but it never went any further, due to lack of interest at the university, and their schedules overflowing with stuff. Fall of 2004 however, the idea was brought up again, but this time with added interest from two new guys, Scott Hooker and Greg Johnson. Through that renewed interest and the interest of many others they discussed the idea to, they decided to go and again try to establish a Kappa Upsilon Chi chapter at UTD. So on that faithful weekend, three guys, Robert Gifford, Greg Johnson, and Scott Hooker went to the middle of nowhere (Weatherford, TX) to the Kappa Upsilon Chi Leadership Summit, where they were inducted as pledges and became the Iota Chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi.
In August 2005 the Kappa Chapter was inducted in Weatherford, TX. Members of the Iota and Theta Chapters performed the ceremony and welcomed Florida State University into our brotherhood.
